The Power of Connection: Why We're Offering the Circle of Security Parenting Course
At Lingmell Psychology, we believe that strong, secure relationships between parents and children form the foundation for lifelong emotional well-being. This September, we are proud to offer the Circle of Security Parenting (COSP) course in Bristol—a transformative program designed to help parents better understand, respond to, and support their children’s emotional needs.
As a clinical psychologist, I’ve seen firsthand the profound impact that secure attachment can have on a child’s development. In my own family and in my clinical work, I’ve witnessed how children thrive when they feel safe, understood, and emotionally connected to their caregivers.
I support families who come to me for with a wide range of needs. These include wanting help with thier child’s behavior, such as hitting and kicking, or help anxieties, and low mood. With all these cases I know that supporting the family with their relationships and connections with each other is key to helping with all of these concerns.
The COSP course is grounded in decades of attachment research and offers a compassionate, insightful approach to parenting that goes beyond traditional behavioral strategies.
Unlike behavioral approaches that often focus on managing symptoms or correcting behavior, the Circle of Security model helps parents understand the underlying emotional needs driving their child’s actions. It empowers parents to become a secure base from which their children can confidently explore the world and a safe haven to which they can return for comfort and reassurance.
The course provides a roadmap for recognizing when children need support, when they need space, and how to respond in ways that foster trust and resilience. It’s not about being a perfect parent—it’s about being ‘good enough’ and learning to repair and reconnect when things go wrong.
We are offering this course because we want to be part of a broader movement toward nurturing emotionally intelligent, securely attached families. We believe that by supporting parents in building strong emotional connections with their children, we can contribute to a healthier, more compassionate society.
If you’re a parent in Bristol looking to deepen your understanding of your child’s emotional world and strengthen your relationship with them, we invite you to join us this September. You can sign up for the course by visiting our website and completing the Microsoft Form linked there.
